Tips from the community

When: July 28 – through Fall Where: Orlando, Florida Most years, Universal holds a months-long Halloween Horror Nights bash with haunted houses, scare zones, Halloween-themed treats, and world-class entertainment. This year, they’ve had to forgo some of the Halloween events, but there’s still a graveyard’s worth of hair-raising fun to be had. In the absence of walkthrough haunted houses, Universal has opened a HHN Tribute Store with rooms themed to some of their most nightmare-inducing characters. There’s Jack the Clown, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the ghost with the most – Beetlejuice. It’s essentially a haunted house without the scare actors. Instead of frights, you can get Halloween merchandise and ghastly goodies like beating-heart sour gummies. Expert Tip: Make sure rides like Revenge of the Mummy and Skull Island: Reign of Kong are on your itinerary to up your trip’s scare factor.

Halloween lovers have months to celebrate Halloween in Orlando thanks to theme park Halloween events in Central Florida. Mature park-goers can enjoy 28 nights of frights at SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream and 10 haunted houses, five scare zones, and two live shows at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando. Younger visitors can get in the Halloween spirit with fun-for-all-ages events like the daytime SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular and the nighttime Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

After dinner, head back inside USF for a taste of Universal’s Mardi Gras at night. The parade floats glitter with colorful lights (and, you know, actual glitter), entertainers parade through the streets, and live jazz music fills the air. In fact, Universal has been hiring jazz musicians straight out of New Orleans since the aftermath of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, when many musicians were struggling to find steady work. 15 years later, they’re still bringing the authentic sounds of New Orleans to the streets of Universal.
